Victoria Dorfman – Cosmetology Educator
“Ms. Vicki”, as her students call her, has been with Advance Beauty College since 2002, but began her career in the industry in 1995. She graduated from the James Albert School of Cosmetology. Victoria worked at our Garden Grove campus for many years before moving over to Laguna Hills. Her favorite part of the job is working with the students and fostering their passions in cosmetology. She also enjoys cooking and decorating when she’s not working.
Jason West, Cosmetology Educator
Jason has been a professional hairstylist for over 15 years working in Orange County. He earned his cosmetology license here at this very school! He’s also earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration and attend multiple academies including Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy, Sassoon Academy and the Redken Exchange. His talents lie in embracing natural beauty while keeping hair incredibly healthy. He is constantly developing his talents as a stylist. He enjoys teaching students that are eager to learn and grow. In his free time, he loves to be with his family and watch F1 or baseball.
Edward Teitel, Cosmetology Educator
Edward comes to Advance Beauty College with over 30 years of experience. He has been a well respected educator for years and brings his expertise as a brand creative and artistic director. Edward has also done educational shows and classes throughout the world.
His work has been featured in Vogue, Allure, Cosmopolitan, Harpers Bazzaar, Elle, Sports Illustrated and industry publications such as, American Salon, Modern Salon, Esteteca, Canadian Hairdresser, Vibra, Passion, Salon, Cia and Cabelal. Edward has also been involved in celebrity events such as the Grammy’s, Oscars, Emmy’s, Daytime Emmy’s Golden Globes and Sundance Festival. He has won over 75 national and international hairstyle awards. Edward is passionate about giving back to the industry and hopes to inspire students to make good career decisions and help them to become successful. We are so proud to have Edward as a part of the Advance Beauty College Team!
Mimi Pourvajdi, Cosmetology Educator
Mimi started back when she was in high school on career day. She went to a styling class and found her passion. She started with Flavios Beauty College and graduated a month before her high school graduation. She worked at a salon that summer and learned a lot more than the average cosmetologist. She took a lot of color classes which helped her with self-esteem and knowledge. She then started building a clientele and put herself through school to obtain her college degree in Arts. Mimi has over 35 years behind the chair. Traveling to other states has been an adventure in her career. She’s met a lot of people including celebrities. Loving your job is the key to your success and happiness. Teaching what she has learned gives he the satisfaction to continue on the path to more success. Her hope for all is to find their passion and make a career out of it.
Cathye Solliday – Esthetician Educator
Cathye has been in the industry since 2006. She is passionate about skin care and finds it to be a rewarding, nurturing and calming field of work. She enjoys sharing her passion with students as well as giving them hands on education. Teaching skin care has been one of her greatest joys.
She has completed an Oncology in Esthetics course and believes that it is imperative to teacher students the proper treatment techniques when working with cancer survivors. Cathye has also gone on to complete many continuing education courses from the International Dermal Institute (IDI), allowing her to stay current on new trends and techniques. To date, she has completed over 100 hours from IDI, allowing her to obtain an “Expert” status in the Dermalogica product line. Cathye has three grown children, 2 grandsons and a wonderful husband. In her spare time, Cathye enjoys quilting, knitting, crocheting, drawing, sewing and creating!
Kristine Evans, Esthetician Educator
Kristine joined Advance Beauty College in 2017. Before devoting herself to educating students, she served as Lead Esthetician at Burke Williams Day Spa. After receiving her Esthetician license in 2006, Kristine completed an apprenticeship program at the International Dermal Institute and was awarded IDI’s certificate of achievement in 2008. Her educational background includes a BA in Communications from the University of Wisconsin. Outside the classroom, you can find Kristine reading on the beach, enjoying time with her husband and son or cooking gourmet meals that she occasionally shares with her class!
Joanne Cavallo, Esthetician Educator
Joanne has been a licensed Esthetician for more than thirty years. Many of those earlier years were spent working with notable makeup artists in the television industry.
She is passionate about helping people look and feel their best. Joanne volunteers as a makeup artist to a dedicated organization devoted to improving the lives of disadvantaged women. Having the privilege to share her knowledge with the students is a tremendous joy. She enjoys cooking, gardening, dancing and taking long bike rides with her family.
Carina Tafulu – Cosmetology Educator
Carina has been in the industry since 2001 and began her career in Palm Springs, CA. She has been published in many notable magazines such as Runway and 10 Ten Magazine. In 2013, Carina was named Hairstylist of the Year for Orange County. Carina enjoys teaching her students and setting them up for success. In her free time, she enjoys whale watching, photography, and her two pet parrots.
Shaunda King – Cosmetology Educator
Shaunda King has been a licensed Cosmetologist for 30 years in which 17 has been in educating future cosmetologists, manicurists, and estheticians. She earned her Bachelors degree in Education, Master Educator training from Milady along with also her Cosmetology Instructor license. She has worked in salons and had her own salon for 5 yrs. Shaunda has also done hair and makeup on film and TV. Sharing her knowledge is her passion and she strives to help her students “Shine”.
Jessica Gallo, Manager
Jessica joined Advance Beauty College in 2017. She has been a licensed Cosmetologist since 2004. By attending numerous certification classes over the years, it allowed her to continue her education in the industry and keep up with the latest trends. After spending over a decade behind the chair in New Jersey, she moved to California and began educating for Cinderella Hair Extensions. She soon took on the role as Director of Education overseeing all aspects of their curriculum and their nation wide hands on seminars. Jessica is a huge Harry Potter fan and frequently goes to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Hollywood. Aside from that she enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with her husband and their dog reef.
Lauren Edwards – Student Services Coordinator
Lauren started with Advance Beauty College in 2017. She comes with over 10 years of experience in the administrative and customer service fields. Her role here is working with the students directly with tours, orientations, hours and graduation. In Lauren’s time off, she enjoys spending time with her children and going to the beach.
Tam Nguyen – President
Tam leads the executive team on the overall growth and development of the company, with strong emphasis on marketing, compliance, and community relations. He earned his BS from University of California, Irvine, a MD from American University of the Caribbean, and a MBA from Cal State University, Fullerton. Tam is also very involved in the industry as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) and as an evaluator for both NACCAS and COMTA. His community outreach projects include working with the Horizon Cross-Cultural Center, as a chair member, and Project Vietnam. His favorite part of the job is being able to participate in the various agencies that help regulate and improve the beauty and massage industries. In his spare time, Tam enjoys spending time with his wife, 2 sons, and daughter, traveling, and coaching his son’s basketball team.
Linh Nguyen – Vice President
Linh works alongside the executive team on the overall growth and development of the company. Linh has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1993. She earned a BA is Business Administration from Cal State University, Fullerton and a vocational credential from UCLA Extension. Linh is also currently pursuing her MBA from Cal State University, Fullerton. She has been in education since 1995 and has taught in both public and private schools. She has assisted in translating for the NIC, as well as sat on an expert panel for the practical exam for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. She grew up in the industry as a second generation owner and loves that she can continue the family business. She enjoys working with the staff and students at both campuses as well as doing community outreach. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and listening to music.
Suzette Christian-Marchetti – VP of Industry Relations
Suzette joined Advance Beauty College in 2015 with over 16 years of experience in the beauty industry working with industry leaders such as Dermalogica, Paul Mitchell the School, and Spa Montage. She has served on numerous industry associations, advisory boards and has been a featured industry speaker. Suzette graduated from Villanova University with a BA in Communications.
In her free time, Suzette enjoys Pilates, theater and spending time with her dog, Clark.
Christine Nguyen – Finance Director
Christine is responsible for overseeing our admissions processes at both campuses and assists in many various administrative tasks. Christine is actually a licensed pharmacist and still works at a hospital part time. She enjoys working at the school because of the diversity of her tasks. She enjoys spending time with her children, decorating, working out, and seeing friends in her spare time.
