Cosmetology School Career Resources
You might be wondering what kind of cosmetology school career resources that Advance Beauty College in Orange County might have available for you. We like to take a hands on approach with our students so they are given adequate support throughout their academic careers. Upon your first time visiting our campus, we make sure that our admissions staff schedules adequate time to take you on a tour and answer all of your questions, from financial aid and payment plans to class schedules.
Throughout a student’s course of study, they will receive periodic academic counseling from their instructor. These are called Satisfactory Academic Progress reports and are scheduled at regular intervals for each program. Cosmetology students are evaluated four times: at the point they reach 25 percent of the required hours, 50 percent, 75 percent and 90 percent. Students enrolled in 400 or 600 hour programs are evaluated at the point they reach 50 percent and 90 percent of their hours. This allows us to check in with our students and make plans if a student is falling behind. Additionally, students will receive weekly check ins with their instructor.
Resume and Portfolio Building
Students are introduced to a unit in resume and portfolio building. Instructors go over interview questions including opportunities for students to role play to see what a job interview would feel like. Additionally, our students are taken on field trips to salons and spas and give the opportunity to meet with the owners/managers to learn more about what they are looking for in potential employees. We encourage students to document their work with pictures throughout their study. The school also sponsors fun competitions such as bridal and up-do hair to challenge the student’s creativity and skills.
Events and Special Activities
Advance Beauty College students participate in various special activities and events each year. One of our student favorites is the Viet Fashion Week. Students work alongside top makeup and hair artists on models while experiencing the behind the scenes action. This gives our students an opportunity to explore career options that are beyond the salon or spa as well a chance to network with industry professionals.
As a member of the American Academy of Cosmetology Schools, our students are eligible for many scholarships. Recently, students from Advance Beauty College have won scholarships from CND and OPI. Visit our scholarship information page for more information.
