Have you always had a passion for the fleek, chic, or boutique? Is the salon your home away from home? A career in cosmetology might be perfect for you, so you may be wondering what your daily routine would look like. Cosmetologists learn so many different things at beauty school, so they have many options after graduation. This blog goes over some of our favorite things we get to do every day as cosmetologists!
Work with Hair
Most cosmetologists go into a career working with hair, which makes sense because most cosmetology programs spend the most time on learning different hair techniques. Here are just a few of the most popular skills our students can learn:
Cut & Style
Do bangs, bobs, and blowouts get you excited? Cutting hair is a huge part of being a cosmetologist, and you get to be the artist behind the chair! Whether you’re performing dramatic hair makeovers or simple seasonal touch-ups, working with hair is where you’ll likely spend most of your time. Our program is designed to cover all of the classic looks clients usually ask for, as well as the newest and hottest looks as they come out.
Hair color is where many cosmetologists like to let loose with their creative side. There are many different ways to color a client’s hair in all sorts of colors and patterns! From bold bleaches to bodacious balayages, there are countless ways for you to help your client get a look they love. Even the modern trends, such as rose brunettes and peanut butter and jelly hair are things we we can look at and encourage for our students. If you love art, color, and creativity, cosmetology could be the place for you to express yourself and make a living while you’re at it!
Balayage is one of the hottest hair trends of the year, and has been evolving ever since it hit mainstream popularity several years ago. The term “balayage” comes from a French word that means “sweeping”, so the stylist paints color into the hair without foil to create a natural, sun-kissed look. Different styles of balayage, such as reverse balayage or ombre, are just a few of many different ways you can learn to color hair!
Do you have more skincare products than you can count? Working as an esthetician could be perfect for you! The cosmetology program at Advance Beauty College includes training in esthetics so you can provide killer facials, masks, wraps, and more! Estheticians are trained to assess and treat many different skin conditions and even use techniques like waxing, peels, or microdermabrasion to help improve the health and look of the skin. When deciding on a cosmetology program, make sure to ask about the esthetics education to see if it gives you what you are looking for!
If you have a knack for creating a stunning set of nails, let your talent be your calling! We train our cosmetologists on how to perform manicures and pedicures. Advance Beauty College in Garden Grove in is widely known for our nail programs, and that education is included in our cosmetology program! Learning nails is a great way for beauty pros to make a career of creating gorgeous sets of nails!
Beauty & Beyond
Cosmetologists aren’t limited to performing hair, skin, and nail services in a salon or spa. Many of them branch out in different directions during their careers and explore exciting opportunities. Some choose to become business owners and open up their own spas or salons. Others can even start a brand new product line. Some will work for beauty product brands as representatives or developers. Others even decide they want to work in management or education at beauty schools! Regardless of what you interests are, a cosmetology education can lay a foundation for you to be the beauty maven you know you are!
