Why did you start in the field?

I started in this field 14 years ago. I got licensed in Palm Springs. I started this career because I have an aunt that used to cut my and my mom’s hair. I loved watching her cut and color. She taught me how to cut my mom’s hair because she moved to Washington. I started cutting my mom’s hair and then my sister’s. It went on to friends and more friends. I decided to try beauty school and see if I would like it. I ended up LOVING it! I always loved working on people and making them feel better about themselves. In beauty school I thrived and did a lot of competitions and took their name to the next level. I loved it and I was hooked! I’ve always been artistic and through hair I took the hair and made it into a piece of art work.

What are your dreams? Have you reached them yet?

My dream in beauty school was to be published in a magazine before the age of 30. I did it while I was still in beauty school. I dreamed of doing more photo shoots and competitions and I kept pushing the doors.  Last year was a huge dream come true when I was named Hairdresser of the Year for Orange County. I also got signed with an agency in LA. That was a huge accomplishment of mine. I never dreamed I would be working with the best of the best in the business and get paid to do what I love to do so much. I love teaching and I love working on my clients in the salon but I truly love doing photo shoots. I started thinking about my future and that I wanted to give back. I went and did my cosmetology teacher training and got my teaching certificate.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Palm springs. My mom is from Brazil and my dad was from South Africa.

What is your Advance Beauty College history?

I started working at Advance Beauty College in  January of 2013 and it has been amazing.

Tell us about your family.

My family lives in Palm Springs. I moved to Orange County 8 years ago when I got married to my husband, Jeff. I have no kids, just 2 feathers kids named Danger and Nova (my parrots).

What are your hobbies?

My days off are spent whale watching, with family, and date nights with my husband.

What is your most memorable teaching experience?

My most memorable teaching experience was seeing my very first class graduate. I got them at 0 hours and I taught them all the way to 1600 hrs. It was amazing to see them grow and learn and watch them with their clients. It is so rewarding and its hard not to bond to all of them.

Here are some examples of Carina’s work!
